Curriculum Vitae
Aafke started studying physics at the university of Amsterdam (Netherlands) in 1996, and received her degree cum laude in 2001 with specialization theoretical neutrino physics. From 2001 until 2004 she conducted her PhD studies at the Niels Bohr Institute in Copenhagen (Denmark), working on the ALEPH and ATLAS experiments as well as particle physics phenomenology. Her research focused on searches for new physics signals including supersymmetry. After her PhD Aafke spent a period at Fermilab (USA), working in the CDF experiment for the University of Pennsylvania on top quark physics. In 2006 she moved to Pisa, where she joined the CMS group with an individual Marie Curie fellowship, focusing on quarkonia and physics analysis preparation. In 2011 she made a major change in her career, leaving Pisa and high energy physics, and starting to work at the Daniel Den Hoed cancer clinic at the Erasmus University (Rotterdam, Netherlands). She performed research on IMPT treatment planning, treatment uncertainties and spot placement techniques in IMPT. In 2012 Aafke returned to Pisa to join the Functional Imaging Group at INFN. Since then her research has focused on application of PET for treatment monitoring in hadrontherapy. Aafke is author/coauthor of over 450 papers in high energy physics and medical physics.
